September Beauty Heroes // SKIN OWL Beauty Drops PM Maqui Berry + Beauty Whip

september 2, 2017 | by: mercedes | filed under: videos, skincare

Today on YouTube, my comprehensive review of the September Beauty Heroes box featuring the Beauty Drops PM Maqui Berry and the Beauty Whip as the sidekick. The whip also features the supercharged fruit antioxidant, maquis berry – in powdered form, along with other skin-calming ingredients like hyaluronic, evening primrose,  and rosehip. While we’ll all miss the Skin Owl Mangosteen Beauty Drops dearly, there’s a really compelling production ethics story from Skin Owl founder/formulator Annie Tevelin that’s worth listening to.

In other updates, I continue to be so, SO thankful for your support on Patreon. I uploaded a strung-together video of a week’s worth of Instagram stories for all Patrons today, and the aux urnes Patrons just voted on the exclusive video they’d like to see this month. It’s going to be a Bullet Journal spread/preview video. Later this fall I’m going to do a video for YouTube on my thoughts after a full year of Bullet Journaling, but will be largely conceptual and reflective. This video for Patrons will be more visual, more casual, and more process-oriented. So if you’re so inclined, come join!

Lastly, I donated 10% of my first month of Patreon pledges to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts – I split the fund between the Houston Food Bank and the Houston SPCA. Everyone affected continues to be in my thoughts <3

xoxo,

mercedes

My perpetual striving…again revisited!

september 27, 2016 | by: mercedes | filed under: videos, skincare

Well guys here we are. So many promises (best laid plans, really) to blog REGULARLY and then life inevitably happens. But…here we go again. I’m feeling re-inspired to create unique content on here to supplement YouTube and Instagram. These are the platforms I want to invest in (I’m deleting my Twitter account, was on Snapchat many years ago and no intentions to go back…also no to IG stories). So, I’m going to do my best! Also my new Bullet Journal undertaking means I can create a dedicated space to plan blog posts (more on THAT in September Faves).

So to get back in the swing of things, I’m quite proud of the Beauty Heroes One Year Retrospective Review video I uploaded on Sunday. I looked back over all the boxes I’ve (generously) received and walk through each month, and give a comprehensive assessment of the products that stood out the most to me (as well as the small number that I couldn’t get to work). Watch on YouTube!

Previse Nutrify Tonic Level 1-6 + Beauty Heroes Gift With Purchase

june 17, 2016 | by: mercedes | filed under: skincare, videos

IMG_6089

I just posted this photo on Instagram…which got me to thinking, I’m constantly thinking of ways to simultaneously diversify but streamline my social media presence and l’amour “brand” if you will. Lately I’ve started thinking I’d like to somehow synch up my daily IG posts with a daily blog post. SUPER aspirational as I can barely seem to get blog posts up that promote the videos I do on Youtube, let alone unique content, but it’s my unrelenting goal.

Ok waxing poetic on blogging goals aside – I REALLY like this new-to-me skincare product! Not quite a serum, yet definitely not a toner, it sits somewhere in between. I give the full backstory, and my first impressions of the product in my video from yesterday. Watch it here and then subscribe while you’re there so you can keep up with my twice weekly video uploads!

Also, Beauty Heroes is running a Previse gift with purchase promotion from June 15th through July 15th when you shop the Nutrify Tonic Level 1-6 in the shop. Don’t forget Beauty Heroes subscribers save 15%. As a disclaimer, I was sent this product as a PR sample to test out and review for you.

Friday Things: Recent Beauty Heroes June Box Review Video + Boston’s Sephora at the Prudential

june 3, 2016 | by: mercedes | filed under: makeup, videos

z

On Wednesday (my birthday!) I uploaded my review of the June Beauty Heroes box, featuring The Emotive Makeup Collection by Modern Minerals x Lotus Wei. This box was SUPER polarizing and I really do understand – my first impressions were decidedly underwhelming. I tried to remain neutral and unbiased while testing the products in the box out, and you can hear how my thoughts and product experience evolved.  Beauty Heroes will be changing how they deal with makeup in their boxes, sooooo hop over to go watch and hear it all! Also there are tons of comments where people shared their brutally honest opinions too, in case you’re interested.

Products in the box include the following –

mm1

Lotus Wei-infused lip gloss in Padparadscha

mm4

Lip Gloss in Citrine

mm5

Modern Moonstone Cream Highlighter (exclusive to Beauty Heroes subscribers)

mm2

Rose Quartz Eyeshadow

Ok AND THEN – I went to Sephora at the Prudential Center (in Boston) last night. I had been to their temporary space while the new space was being put together and DEAR LORD IS IT SOMETHING TO BEHOLD. It’s obviously massive, but what blew me away was seeing brands I’ve never seen in a brick and mortar Sephora – Briogeo, Verb, they’re getting Oaui soon, Tata Harper makeup, Surratt, EVERYTHING. Died.

I brought the Christophe Robin thickening spray to return (teaser, you’ll see this in my Mercedes Shops this Sunday!), and ended up getting all THIS:

1

So actually the only thing I purchased was the Surratt Relevée Eyelash curler which I talked about wanting here, and lordy lord do they know how to lure a sister in with their packaging. Not shown here but in comes in a gorgeous black box with the super chic and elegant Surratt logo embossing, and the curler itself lives in this little black drawstring pouch. First impressions after trying it last night…unlike any other SHAPE of a curler I’ve used, it’s actually very FLAT and doesn’t have as much of an arc to it, if that makes sense? It feels very weighty and…intense. The curl it gave was gorgeous and my lashes were still curled this morning : p I need to play more, but I think I love it.

The other things here were freebies! The Bite Beauty matte lip crayon on Glacé is a new June 100 point perk (nothing else really spoke to me…was considering also throwing in the Hourglass primer mini but nah), and I went for Marc Jacobs in lieu of Fresh for my birthday gift (NARS was better last year imo).  Here are the lip colors swatched along with a completely gratuitous shot of another recent addition to my jewelry collection – that video is coming SOON because I am OBSESSED with the new adornment in my life:

2

Glacé reminds me of two colors I already own, Nudus 27 Kisses and Bite Buttercream in Rosewood (yes, you will see this Sunday TOO SO MANY SPOILERS). The Marc Jacobs shade is called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (cute) and looks like a pretty universally flattering rose pink.

So that’s my Friday for you, playing around with new loot. What’s going on with YOU? <3

March Beauty Heroes: SkinOwl’s Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM + Return of the Facial Steam!

I really loved getting to try the brand SkinOwl in this month’s Beauty Heroes box – I’ve been curious about them for years, and always felt drawn to the simple formulations with high quality ingredients. I think this is now the largest bottle of face oil I’ve ever had in my skincare drawer, and no complaints – I’ve been using it AM and PM, interchanging it with my other (extensive) slew of products. Hear the rest of my (pretty glowing) thoughts here, and in the description box of the video on YouTube I also link to the video I did last year on how to do an At-Home Facial Steam! Which is life changing, FYI:

Love Is All Around You: February Beauty Heroes feat. BeautyCounter <3

february 3, 2016 | by: mercedes | filed under: videos, body care, makeup

Another month, another beauty heroes box – but a really BEAUTIFUL one this month! So thoughtfully curated to reflect celebrating love around Valentine’s Day (I love love, so I’m all good with the glorified amped up hyper-commercialized public celebration of l-o-v-e). This month’s hero product is BeautyCounter’s Lustro Rose Neroli Body Oil, and the sidekick is the FIRST makeup product to be featured in a Beauty Heroes box, the BeautyCounter Lip Sheer in Petal. The packaging ALONE on both these products is to die – j’adore!

To hear my review of this month’s box, you can watch on YouTube, or down below. And to subscribe to Beauty Heroes to receive this month’s box for $39, you can click here!

*As a disclaimer, I am very thankful to be a Beauty Heroes Brand Ambassador and receive these boxes each month to try out and review for my channel.

Beauty Heroes: A Subscription Box Worth Considering

january 6, 2016 | by: mercedes | filed under: skincare, videos

10979524_1393165144318387_1669584229_n

I haven’t posted about Beauty Heroes yet on here, but given it was Youtube upload today I thought it fitting to mention on here, and direct any of you who stumble on this post to the playlist of Youtube video reviews I’ve done on boxes since September 2015.

It all started when my friend Jaime (who I met through my channel!) started telling me about this new subscription box she was into. We had both bemoaned the downward spiral of Petit Vour, and she happened to mention my name and YouTube channel to Beauty Heroes founder Jeannie Jarnot. Jeannie liked my Youtube presence enough to send me a free box to try out and review. One month turned into three…which turned into me becoming and “influencer” for the brand…until last month Jeannie offered me the Beauty Heroes “brand ambassador” title. Which, let’s be honest, was THRILLING for me. On so many levels. But primarily because I have never had such a positive working relationship with an eco-brand or company as I’ve had with Jeannie. I’ve said this repeatedly and I’ll say it here – Jeannie is the most engaged, thoughtful, dedicated business owner I’ve yet to interact with. Her dedication is evident in both the thoughtfully curated contents of each month’s box, as well through her social media presence and communication. She responds quickly, kindly, and HELPFULLY to every query I’ve personally ever sent her, and I’ve heard the same from other customers who email her with product concerns.

If you’re curious to watch me talk more at length about the Beauty Heroes subscription box experience and review each month’s products in depth, you can view the full playlist of videos here. The January Box featured a brand I’ve loved for years, Osmia Organics. I’m a NUT for their protein exfoliating mask and honey myrrh lip repair. And I’ve been really in love with this month’s picks, the Black Clay Facial Soap Bar, and the Simple Face Cream. Hear more below, or directly on YouTube:

If you’re interested in subscribing to Beauty Heroes, you can visit them here to learn more. Or to specifically subscribe to the January Box, you can do so here.
