La Musique Favorite de December 2015

My top 5 tracks of the month, here for your listening pleasure! I had a love affair with each of these, with the Frank + Tony remix of the Herbert Track “I Hadn’t Known” probably taking the cake for most listened to track of the month. Just something about them – all three of them, really. I was a Matthew Herbert fan long before I was a Frank + Tony Fan (his remix of Serge Gainsbourg’s “Bonnie & Clyde, anyone???). If you want a copy of “I Hadn’t Known” I think you can still download it for free here: http://www.factmag.com/2015/12/16/frank-tony-herbert-i-hadnt-known-edit-download/

The Lawrence Remix of Lake People’s “Drifting Red” is ethereal and sublime – slightly minimal but with a substantial bass line. I had a moment with Black Coffee in late November that carried through into December, and Jullian Gomes’s remix of Rock My World brings that beautiful, soulful female vocal that initially hooked me into house – done very properly here. I’ve been OBSESSED with Andre Lodemann’s sound after hearing so many of his tracks in Lee Burridge sets. He sound is so deep and layered to me, and this remix he did of Temporary Hero’s “Ballet” is one of my favorite recent finds of his. And I spent some time going through Resident Advisor’s top artists and labels of 2015 – recent list releases of theirs as we close out the year – and realized I needed to be into Hunee (aside, he’s djing in Boston in late January ouiiiiii). I guess he’s had a real break out year in underground house, and I’m seeing why. This remix he did of Virgo Four’s “It’s A Crime” is feel-good and fun, and I could have imagined myself playing it during one of my gigs in my grad school days, to the non-house music initiated. Just a good dance track, in my opinion.
