Music, Not Shopping!
Ok fine, some shopping. It’s Black Friday and I have a bunch of tabs open with carts filled to varying degrees – though will I actually pull the trigger on any of them? Aside from this strange online shopping behavior, I’ve been vibing to two *amazing* mixes this morning as I do lots of laundry/cleaning/palo-santo-ing my space. I’ve had these two mixes in my rotation for the last several weeks – each delivers something different, but I find myself getting lost in both. I can’t take credit for discovering them – my girl Kat let me know what’s up.
1. Black Coffee’s MixMag In Session mix (this looks to be about a year old): just getting into Black Coffee these days; he delivers a classic deep house sound with some tribal elements, and lots of soulful vocals. I see this sound working really well in a traditional nightclub setting, and seems versatile enough to appeal to house music neophytes as well as seasoned house heads. 2. Guy Mantzur’s A Guy In Ibiza #02: B2B With Guy J @ Alter Ego Sunset Secret Party Set (recorded September 20, 2015): SO into this sound, more minimal/tribal/exotic/esoteric/sacred dance music that seems more likely to appeal to real underground enthusiasts who frequent festivals in tropical locales and party for 24-48 hours straight (or more), versus dance music noobs. I’m obsessed with this set. Link to listen on Soundcloud here.
